DogeSMS in Kampala
Why we're building presence in Kampala
Uganda's mobile market is led by MTN Uganda and Airtel Uganda, with a combined subscriber base of 31M in a country of 48M — indicating strong mobile-first adoption in a population where 78% of financial transactions still happen via mobile money rather than bank transfer. UCC (Uganda Communications Commission) has implemented A2P SMS sender registration requirements since 2021, with enforcement that has materially improved delivery quality for registered originators relative to gray routes. Kampala's emerging tech ecosystem — centered around Outbox Hub, DFCU Bank's fintech program, and a growing community of East African SaaS founders — has produced a generation of operators who understand carrier commercial relationships as directly as they understand product metrics. Uganda's position on the East African ridge, sharing borders with Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, DRC, and South Sudan, makes Kampala-based carrier operations inherently multi-market from day one — exactly the scope that OTP infrastructure at regional scale requires.
